Anticorrosive pipe wrapping introduced in Pipe Plant of RSP

The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) today said its Pipe Plant had achieved a major breakthrough in the ongoing 20-inch spiral welded pipe campaign through production and supply of 5.8 mm thickness pipes with special "polyster re-inforced anti-corrosive coal tar wrapping".
These specialty wrapping and coating were not a part of RSPs normal manufacturing process.
Keeping in mind the constant feed back from the Central Marketing Organisation (CMO) of SAIL about the orders of special coated and wrapped pipe in SW pipe segment, the Spiral Weld Pipe Plant in co-ordination with PPC department of RSP and CMO took up the challenge, the RSP said in a statement.

Several vital changes were made in the supply and delivery chain to successfully meet the order for supply of a total of 10,000 metres of pipes with 5.8 mm thickness and 508 mm length each with polyster re-inforced anti-corrosive coal tar wrapping. The order was for Power project-Korba through a private company.
The pipes were successfully made in September-2017 and the first shipment of the pipes was dispatched on September 27, it said adding that the customer was highly satisfied with the product.
Another milestone was achieved by the spiral weld pipe plant recently when it completed the last phase of supplies to the Orissa PHED for the Mega Lift Irrigation Project, the RSP statement said.

The 6400 tonnes of Spiral Weld Pipes in diameters of 28 inch, 36 inch, 40 inch and 44 inch with total length of 34 km were supplied for the project through L&T.

The requirements of the customer were very stringent including ultrasonic testing and radiographic testing and pipes in close length range with third party inspection. The supply was completed within the stipulated delivery schedule.
With these initiatives RSP has gained an edge in the highly competitive pipe market and has also been able to widen its customer base which is the need of the hour.
The Spiral Weld Pipe Plant of RSP is the pioneer in producing large diameter pipes and has been consistently displaying its efficiency by executing the critical orders in the market, it added.
