The band, formed in 2002, also won the live band prize, while lead singer Alex Turner was named hero of the year, reported BBC news.
Artist and actress Lily Allen bagged the best solo artist award while former Beatles member Paul McCartney collected a songwriting award.
"The great thing about songwriting is that you don't know how you do it," he said while collecting the prize.
The event also saw frontman of the rock band 'Blur' Damon Albarn being awarded for innovation for the continual reinvention of his career.
The band's guitarist and singer Alana Haim picked up another plaudit in her own right for having the best Twitter feed.
