Army Chief lauds Rashtriya Rifles' efforts

Army chief General Bikram Singh exhorted the Rashtriya Rifles to continue marginalising terrorists through people-friendly operations while praising their contribution to development at a function at Nagrota near here today.
"Rashtriya Rifles (troops) should continue their efforts toward marginalising terrorists through clean and people-friendly operations while following the law of the land," General Singh told Ninth Biennial Conference of Rashtriya Rifles at 16 Corps Headquarters at Nagrota.
Gen Singh emphasised on the need to avoid collateral damage and ensure dignity and human rights of people, and lauded the force in restoring and maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir and contributing towards development and nation building.
In his address, the Northern Command Chief Lt Gen Sanjeev Chachra thanked the state administration, J&K Police and other agencies for their support and cooperation.
Tributes were paid to soldiers of the force who laid down their lives during operations.
The Rashtriya Rifles, even as it conducted operations to quell terrorism, has concurrently undertaken people-friendly activities. It has assisted locals of remote areas with aids and has given an impetus to development, growth, education and communal harmony though its civic action programmes.
Later, Gen Bikram Singh met with the Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra over lunch in Jammu and discussed the prevailing security situation in the state.
