Army jawan arrested for raping woman

The accused Rajesh Kumar (32), posted in Alwar, was held at the station soon after the incident took place yesterday.

"The 25-year-old victim along with her one-year-old child arrived at the junction from Jaipur yesterday, whereas the Army jawan had gone there for some work", In charge of GRP Alwar station J C Ram said.

After the woman asked the jawan the way to a bathroom, Ram said, Kumar followed her to the bathroom of the waiting room and bolted the door from inside and allegedly raped her.

The victim informed the people present at the junction about the incident, following which he was arrested, the GRP official said.

Kumar was today produced before a railway court which remanded him to police custody till May 3.

The accused jawan was posted at 8 Jat Regiment, Defence spokesperson S D Goswami said, adding that the army will extend full cooperation to the GRP in the probe.

"The individual is under police custody. Let the law take its course and the Army will extend full support to the GRP in the case", Goswami said. PTI SDA KBY ERG KAS ESB
