Assam government has conveyed to the Home Ministry that the district administration has requested the local army commander to keep troops in alert and ready for deployment at short notice if situation in Kokrajhar deteriorated, official sources said today.
The Home Ministry also dispatched 1,000 paramilitary personnel to Assam to help the state government in maintaining law and order in violence hit areas.
With the additional paramilitary personnel, the total number of central armed police deployed in Assam has gone up to 4,300.
Security forces were keeping strict vigil and remained alert to foil any design by anti-social elements to disturb peace.
11 people were killed by the NDFB-Songbijit militants in separate incidents in Kokrajhar district since last night.
