Exuding confidence that he is prepared to face any policing challenges in Cuttack, Sanjib Arora, a 2005-batch IPS officer, today took charge as the new DCP of the city here under the urban police department (UPD).
This is his first assignment in the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar commissionerate police.
Prior to his present assignment, Arora was working as Sundargarh SP since 2011. He has also worked in the districts of Gajapati, Balangir and Deogarh in different capacities as the additional SP and the SP.
Arora took charge of the coveted post here from the outgoing DCP S Praveen Kumar, who is shifted to the office of the vigilance director here as a SP vigilance.
Posted for the first time in the sensitive coastal areas and more importantly, heading the Cuttack city police at a time when twin elections are around would certainly be a challenging assignment for Arora.
Speaking to newsmen here after assuming charge, a confident Arora said he is prepared to take up any challenge to deliver the best policing service 24X7 to the elite and culturally rich city of Cuttack eliciting sincere cooperation from the local people.
"Police heavily bank on the people's support and cooperation to deliver the goods and I am sure the city, known for its unique and distinguished spirit of 'bhaichara' (brotherhood), would extend me the same support and cooperation to serve the people better," Arora hoped.
Asked as to how he would handle the crucial elections ahead in the city when 18 of the 21 police stations here are now being headed by officers new to the city, Arora said the same situation is prevailing in almost all of the cities of the State in view of the transfers effected due to the elections.
"But police would stick to the jobs during the elections as per the guidelines issued by the Election Commissioner of India," he said.
