Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has taken stock of the progress of the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project at Gerukamukh being implemented by the NHPC Ltd, a Raj Bhawan communique said here today.
During his visit yesterday, Sharma had first hand assessment of the dam, which is under suspension since December 2011.
He also visited the Power House, Intake Area and the Surge Tunnel.
He was accompanied by NHPC officials, state Power Secretary Kaling Tayeng and Chief Engineer (Hydropower Development) Sang Phuntsok.
NHPC Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project Executive Director Rakesh briefed the governor on the project.
Interacting with the NHPC officials, Sharma said the dam was an engineering marvel.
Expressing concern over the halt in executing the project following protest in neighbouring Assam by anti-dam groups, the governor said a lot of efforts have been put in the project.
Hoping that the work would start soon, the governor exhorted the officials to keep the equipment in order and operational.
"Arunachal Pradesh, adored with immense hydropower potential, will be a major contributor to the country as source of sustainable energy when the state harnesses its hydropower potential," he said.
The governor also interacted with the villagers of Dollungmukh Circle at Kolaptukar and expressed satisfaction that the NHPC had taken care of the local people of the area under Corporal Social Responsibility, the communique added.
