Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland along with infrastructure major Larsen and Toubro Ltd and Nexter Systems have formed a consortium to collaborate for a mounted gun system artillery programme for the Indian army.
Under the agreement, Larsen and Toubro will act as the prime contractor, Nexter will transfer the final integration and production of the Mounted Gun System (MGS) in India and chassis by Ashok Leyland, city-based commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland said in a BSE filing.
"The artillery system proposed by the consortium for the MGS programme is a version of the well-known CAESAR artillery system on 6x6 Super Stallion Chassis from Ashok Leyland", it said, adding the proposed artillery system was unveiled at the Defence Expo held in New Delhi early this year.
"The partnership among the three companies is based on delivering the best solution and value to the Indian Army. The customisation of the systems to fulfil specific Indian requirements will be done in cooperation between the three companies," it said.
The partnership between the three companies was signed at Eurosatory, the largest defence exhibition held recently.
According to the statement, there are over 70,000 Stallion vehicles manufactured by Ashok Leyland, who are also the largest logistics supplier to the Indian Army.
Ashok Leyland Defence Systems is a company specifically set up to address the diverse and different requirements for specialist vehicles meant only for the defence forces.
