Cummins India on Wednesday announced that Ashwath Ram has been appointed leader of India ABO and managing director of Cummins India Ltd, effective August 17.
His responsibilities will include leading all business units and functional groups, including manufacturing sites and legal entities, in India, a statement by the company said.
"Ashwath's strong contributions and leadership make us confident in his ability to steer Cummins India through the next phase of growth and competitive challenges," said Norbert Nusterer, vice-president and president, Cummins Inc.
Ram first joined Cummins in Columbus, Indiana, USA, in 1991 and since then, he has led business unit operations as well as key strategic transformations for the engine business and power systems in India.
Most recently, Ram served as the managing director of Tata Cummins and EBU India General Manager, overseeing the Cummins' joint venture and building relationships with large OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners, customers and suppliers.
Ram earned Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University (USA) and his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University (USA).
A native of southern India, he has two children who are both pursuing advanced degrees in the US.
Cummins India designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines and related technologies in India.
