ASI dismissed from service

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), who was incharge of anti-narcotic cell of Punjab police, has been dismissed from service on corruption charges, police said today.
Taking cognisance of the corruption charges against ASI Hardev Singh, he has been dismissed from the service, Inspector General of Police (Bhatinda Zone), M S Chinna said, adding that no corruption or dereliction of the duty will be tolerated in the police department at any cost.
A case was also lodged against the ASI today for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 4 lakh in lieu of letting an accused involved in drug peddling off the hook, police said.

Last month, a case was registered against the ASI for allegedly accepting Rs 4.70 lakh from one Gurpal Singh, of village Khachharwala, to release his son Lovepreet Singh who had been picked up by the police on drug peddling charges.
In his complaint, Gurpal had accused the ASI of demanding Rs 10 lakh to release his son. However, the deal was later settled for Rs 5 lakh but Gurpal could manage only Rs 4.70 lakh, which was allegedly paid to ASI.
"The erring police official has been dismissed from the service following registration of two corruption cases against him," police said.

Later, Gurpal had lodged a complaint in IG Bhatinda office following which a special team headed by Gaurav Garg SSP Ferozepur was constituted to probe the charges.
The ASI was booked on the basis of preliminary enquiry conducted by the SSP, which indicated that the complaint against him was correct.
In the latest case, filed today on the basis of compliant by Rana Singh of village Dulla Singh Wala, the complainant had alleged that Hardev took Rs 4 lakh to release his nephew Jaswinder Singh which was handed over to him on April 4 last month.
