On the occasion of International Day of People with Disability, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said in a statement, "The state government is committed to integrating differently-abled persons in every sphere of life by chalking out a policy to stimulate their development."
"Stating that the persons with disability are not liability but assets to the society, he underlined the need for generating awareness about disability issues and raising the rights, dignity and welfare of the differently abled people.
"We need to be more sensitive, more sensible and more responsive in dealing with the issues of differently abled persons and to hammer out a level playing field to change misconception and counter stigma and stereotyping about persons with disability," Gogoi said.
