Assam Governor J B Patnaik today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here amid moves by the government to remove some Governors appointed during the previous UPA rule.
"It was a courtesy call," a PMO statement said on the meeting that took place in the Prime Minister's Office in South Block.
There were rumours yesterday that Patnaik had resigned after he met President Pranab Mukherjee. He, however, had dismissed the rumours.
"If there is a rumour (about his resignation) I cannot help," he had told reporters yesterday.
Patnaik, a former Congress Chief Minister of Odisha, had said the President is his friend and meeting him did not mean that he was resigning.
The meeting took place at a time when the NDA government is believed to have sounded some Governors to resign.
