Emphasising the need to learn martial arts for self defence by women, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the government would roll out a special scheme to introduce judo in schools.
"At a time when incidence of crimes against the fair sex is on the rise, self-defence is the best way to keep the anti-social elements at bay," Gogoi said while inaugurating a judo training session organised by North East Girls' Students' Association (NEGSA) here.
The chief minister said "a special scheme would be taken up by the government for introducing judo in the schools in a big way," an official release said.
"Learning the finer nuances of martial arts like judo gives the courage and confidence to ward off any danger," Gogoi said.
Appreciating the endeavour of NEGSA, the chief minister said his government would extend all possible help and support in popularising judo as a game of self defence.
