Imposition of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu stood out among the demands made at a one-day conference called by MDMK at Palladam in the neighbouring Tirupur district today.
A resolution adopted at the conference, which was held to coincide with the birth anniversary of former chief minister, the late CN Annadurai, and the 100th year of the Dravidian movement, sought the clamping of total prohibition in the state.
As a first step, the conference said, the government should close down all the liquor outlets run by it.
Meanwhile, in another resolution, the party asked the Centre to constitute the Cauvery Management Board to ensure that Tamil Nadu gets its due share of water.
Claiming that industrial growth had declined under the present AIADMK government, MDMK attributed the same to "wrong policies" and the resultant "flight" of industries to neighbouring states.
Among other demands, the party sought retrieval of Katchatheevu, protection of Tamil fishermen, loans to farmers at four per cent interest and immediate payment of arrears to sugarcane growers by the sugar mills.
Deputy chief minister of Penang in Malayasia, P Ramasamy, and Dravida Kazhagam leader K Veeramani were among those present for the conference, which was chaired by MDMK General Secretary, Vaiko.
