AU Sports Board chairman and varsity Vice Chancellor G S N Raju today told reporters that 85 teams from five states -- Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka -- will be taking part in the tournament.
"The varsity has been promoting sports in a big way and the University Grant commission has sanctioned Rs 1.76 crore for the indoor stadium and other infrastructure and developmental activities in the university," he said.
M Syam Babu, Director of Physical Education, Andhra University said the matches will be conducted in accordance with the latest rules of Volleyball Federation of India.
The first match will be played on October 24 between Ramakrishna Mission and NIT Warangal.
Last year, SRM University, Chennai lifted south-zone inter-university volleyball championship trophy held at Machilipatnam.
Top four teams of South Zone will be qualified for all India-inter-university volleyball men tournament.
