Authorities to test quality of water

Public health officials would test the quality of water in the temple tank of the Shiva temple, where the the once-in-12 years event mahamaham festival, which began today.
The purity of the water would be tested periodically, an official press release said.
The ten day festival attracted a large number of devotees from different parts of the country.
The Rudhraabhishekam holy water, after performing the Rudhra (Siva) Yagna at the Mangalambigai Sametha Athikumbeswarar temple here had been poured into the tank after special poojas.
Ten thousand police men had been deployed to regulate the crowd at various points in the city.
