Ashwini and another B.Tech student Sumit were going on their bike last night when a car tried to stop them near Kailash hospital here. When the duo did not stop, someone from the car fired at them, they said.
The bullet hit Ashwini who was riding pillion, a police official said, adding, Sumit took him to hospital.
"Ashwini's condition is now stable," the official said.
Both Ashwini and Sumit are from Allahabad.
An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons.
