Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today said if Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, he along with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would double the pace of development in the state.
"There has been a strong wave in favour of Modi and Congress would disappear from the political map of the country after the Lok Sabha polls," Badal, president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), said here.
He was addressing a meeting of office bearers of SAD and ally BJP from Fardikot parliamentary constituency to kickstart the poll campaign in favour of party candidate Paramjit Kaur Gulshan.
"The combination of Modi at the Centre and Badal in Punjab will double the pace of development of the state," he said.
"The SAD-BJP alliance has done marvelous job in the state by placing it on the path of rapid growth despite the step- motherly attitude of Congress-led UPA government at the Centre," he said.
"Now, time has come when party would play an important role in setting up NDA rule to have Punjab's say in the Union government.
"Modi has promised to compensate for all losses suffered by Punjab because of discrimination at the hands of UPA government," he said.
Giving the credit of party's victory in successive Assembly polls to "determination and hard work" of workers, he appealed all party leaders to work like an ordinary worker to ensure the victory of all 13 candidates of SAD-BJP combine.
"I have no secret formula or management skill to win these elections as being projected by the media, but I could achieve these successive victories just because of untiring and united efforts of my grassroots level workers, who remained in electoral battle for months, leaving behind their families.
