There is growing interest in badminton in Arunachal Pradesh since local lad Laa Talar's success in the national level but were facing impediments of lack of infrastructure, shortage of expert coaches besides financial problems.
Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) honorary secretary Bamang Tago today said interest in the game was being evinced by youth from the districts but the man difficulty being faced by the association was the lack of indoor practice courts and trainers.
"We have already achieved the national criteria required for holding national championship in the state but there are no indoor stadia with six badminton court facility for such events," he said.
ASBA general secretary Kalyan Dutta urged sponsors and the general people to come forward and help for the benefit of the sports.
A list of 19 state ranking players, including five girls, was released by ASBA for 2014. The list was prepared from among the winners from age groups between 10 years and 19 19 years and from the open category in the recently concluded second edition of Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Championship.
Tago said these players would be sent for training for selection in North East Zone Inter State Badminton Championship to be held from October 16 to October 19 in Guwahati.
