Activists of BJP Kisan Morcha allegedly waylaid the District Magistrate in Sikanderpur area here and kept him confined in his car for about half an hour, police said.
Rakesh Kumar was yesterday returning after attending a Tehsil Diwas programme when he was stopped by the activists on the pretext of handing him a memorandum concerning the demands of farmers, SP Manoj Kumar Jha said today.
Kumar was stopped by the activists for about half an hour, Jha said.
The morcha activists had earlier held a dharna at the Sikanderpur tehsil campus without the permission of the administration, he said.
The activists during their dharna alleged that despite central help, farmers who suffered the onslaught of drought and hailstorm had not received any compensation.
Police station incharge of Sikanderpur Brijesh Shukla lodged a named FIR against 24 persons, including state unit president of Kisan Morcha Raja Verma, former MLA Bhagwan Pathak and state working committee member Sanjay Yadav, and 100 unnamed under sections 147 (rioting), 342 (wrongful confinement), 427 (mischief), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant) of IPC and section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, he said.
Soon after the incident, the District Magistrate transferred SDM Sikanderpur Arvind Kumar.
