A bandh was observed today in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district to condemn the attack on the car of local BJP MP Heena Gavit, allegedly by Maratha quota activists yesterday.
Commercial establishments, shops, schools and colleges remained shut in response to the bandh called by some tribal organisations, a police official said.
The car of Gavit, who represents tribal-dominated Nandurbar Lok Sabha constituency, was damaged outside the district collector's office in Dhule in north Maharashtra by a group of 15-20 people.
Gavit had escaped unhurt in the attack.
Protesters took out a morcha today on the office of Nandurbar district collector, said the official attached to the district police control room.
In Dhule, a rasta roko protest was held, police said.
Heavy police bandobast was in force across Nandurbar city, around 200 kms away from Nashik, police said.
The shutdown was observed in Nandurbar city and talukas like Akrani, Akkalkuwa, Taloda, Navapur and Shahada, police said.
