Barley down 2% amidst weak trend

Delivery in October month slipped by 1.19%

After yesterday's gains, barley prices fell by Rs 34 to Rs 1,679.50 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators reduced their positions at prevailing levels amidst weak trend in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley prices for delivery in far-month contracts January lost Rs 34, or 1.98%, at Rs 1,679.50 per quintal but volume of business not available.

Also, delivery in October month slipped by Rs 19, or 1.19%, to Rs 1,583.50 per quintal in an open interest of 8,510 lots.

Marketmen said offloading of positions by speculators at improved levels mainly weighed on barley prices at futures trade.

Furthermore, increased supplies in the spot markets too dampened the trading sentiments here at future markets, they added.
