Bears, monkeys destroy pear crop near Kothagiri

Some bears and monkeys have strayed into a tea estate near Kothagiri and destroyed pear crop over the past three days, villagers claim.
According to Thaneermuka villagers, pear plants are grown as intercrop as support to tea plants.
The villagers have spotted three bears, a few monkeys, besides some bisons inside the estate, running into three to four acres, police said.
Though they tried to scare them away by bursting crackers, the animals continue to remain in the area and are destroying the crop.
Despite informing, the forest officials have not reached the spot, the villagers claimed, adding, they are making efforts to drive away the bear and monkeys.
