Puducherry Lt Governor Monday honoured the best sanitary workers of the rural commune panchayats and Swachchta mission supervisors and workers for the excellent implementation of the cleanliness drive.
Presiding over the celebration of 'Swachchta Hi Seva' programme on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi at Raj Nivas here, she said construction of individual household toilets in Puducherry had restored the safety of women saving them the ignominy of defecating in the open and also subjecting them to harassment.
The former IPS officer said with the participation of various organisations, Puducherry would certainly become the "cleanest and finest union territory.
