Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today visited the government botanical garden here and had a look at the various stalls of fruits, vegetables and flowers set up in connection with the ongoing annual flower festival 'Farm Fest 2017'.
She covered the nearly two km distance, accompanied by officials, from Raj Nivas to the garden, on her bicycle.
She also travelled in the 'joy train' in the garden' along with other visitors to the exhibition.
After visiting a stall earmarked in the flower show for the supporters of honey bee farming, the Lt Governor told the officials of the Agriculture Department, the organiser of the annual flower festival, that honey bee farming activity should be propagated among the members of the self-help groups.
The Lt Governor said school children should be encouraged to take up field visits often to the garden so that they can be acquainted with the knowledge of the rich flora of the garden.
She said the botanical garden was established by an eminent botanist G S Perottet in 1826.
Bedi has been visiting various parts of Puducherry every Saturday and Sunday to ascertain implementation of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan in the Union Territory.
