An adaptation of the Dan Brown novel of the same name, the movie will see Hanks returning as symbologist Robert Langdon to solve another mystery.
Ben Foster is in negotiations to play a key villainous role in the Sony and Imagine Entertainment's latest Brown adaptation, said the Hollywood Reporter.
The story sees Langdon drawn into a conspiracy to unleash a deadly plague centered on Dante's Inferno, the 14th century epic poem about the nine circles of hell.
Jones will play Dr Sienna Brooks, Irrfan Harry Sims 'The Provost', Sidse Babett Knudsen Dr Elizabeth Sinskey and Omar Sy as Christoph Bruder.
