Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay died of cancer last evening.
Sanghamitra, who was 60, had been diagnosed with the malignant disease exactly two months back but still kept a brave front, industry sources said.
She passed away here at around 7:30 on Thursday evening.
Sanghamitra, whose late rites were performed early this morning, will be remembered for her roles in blockbuster-family entertainers - Lathi, Sathi, Mittir Barir Bou, Ek Bar Bol Bhalobasi, Pita Swargo Pita Dharmo among others.
She came to the reckoning in big screen in early 90s and carved her niche.
