/ -- The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken on maintenance responsibilities for Vital'uru, a public art installation unveiled at the Bangalore Art and Design Festival - Designuru 2.0 by city-based design hub 10by10 studio in October. The annual event, a combined initiative of the citizens of Bengaluru and the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), strives at making the public a part of an art and design based initiation.
Vital'uru (The City of Vitalities) stands at The Metro Art Center on MG Road, Bengaluru, and measures 5 feet in height and 21 feet in length. The installation is an ode to the city and brings attention to the importance of waste management, segregation, and large-scale recycling and up-cycling, prompting citizen action. It is composed of mild steel, chicken mesh, digital waste, dry waste, paper and plants, and non-degradable waste like paper, cans, and electric worn-outs are used to fill 'I<3Bluru' letters.
With their first public art installation, 10by10 studio aims to illustrate the potential of large-scale up-cycling while simultaneously representing a garbage collection zone in an artistic manner to exemplify the practice of waste segregation. Sensors are embedded around the installation which lights up the installation fabric on movement detection.
As a scaled-down model progressing towards a bigger initiative, the ideation explores aspects of art, typography, heritage, identity and awareness relating to Bengaluru. The crafted output will be spread across the city - all across the inhabited and unused spaces under bridges and flyovers.
Commenting on the initiative, Rajesh Kumar Das, Director of 10by10 studio said, "We are proud to announce that Vital'uru has gained support from the BBMP. Being already involved in raising awareness about such practices, BBMP has taken the responsibility of future maintenance of the installation, confirming that Vital'uru will permanently add to the iconicity of Bengaluru henceforth."
