The film, which was first rumoured to be in the works back in August, will mix concert footage with confessional interviews, reported Daily Mail.
Speaking of her decision to collaborate with the network, Knowles said, "HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity.
"Some of my favourite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home," she added.
The documentary reflects on the realities of her celebrity life, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year in the film.
Michael Lombardo, HBO president of programming, added, "Everybody knows Beyonce's music, but few know Beyonce the person.
"Along with electrifying footage of Beyonce onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman," he added.
It will air on February 16 - 13 days after her 2013 Super Bowl half-time performance.
Knowles recently shared a series of photographs of herself and husband Jay-Z with daughter Blue Ivy.
