BHEL signs pact for setting up renewable projects in Yemen

State-run BHEL has inked an initial agreement with the government of Yemen for setting up solar power projects in the Gulf nation.
"BHEL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Electricity and Energy (Yemen) for setting up Solar Photovoltaic (PV) based power plants at different locations in Yemen," an official statement said.
The MoU was signed by B Prasada Rao, Chairman & Managing Director, BHEL and Saleh Hassan Sumie, the Minister of Electricity & Energy, Republic of Yemen.
BHEL is presently executing a 400 MW Gas Turbine based power plant, Marib Phase-II, in Yemen.
Recently, BHEL also bagged a contract worth Rs 7,900 crore for executing NTPC's 1,980 MW North Karanpura super thermal power project. The plant will have three units, each having a generation capacity of 660 MW.
BHEL's scope of work, in the assignment, involves design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning for the EPC package.
Shares of BHEL closed at Rs 180.75, down 3.19 per cent on the BSE.
