The 73-year-old "Wazir" actor sent a hand written note to Hooda and wished him luck for future.
"I had always admired your talent, but after watching you in 'Sarabjit' last night I could not resist writing to you and expressing my immense admiration for your work in the film.
"May you continue to prosper and may you give us many more occasion to applaud you and your tremendous talent," the note read.
Hooda, 39, shared the picture of the note on Twitter.
"Sarbjit" is a biopic on Indian convict Sarabjit Singh, who was beaten to death in a Pakistani jail.
The film stars Hooda in the titular role, with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan playing his sister Dalbir Kaur and Richa Chadda as his wife.
"Sarbjit" is produced by Sandeep Singh, Kumar and Vashu Bhagnani.
