The Bihar government today announced Rs 25,000 to girl students passing the class 12th examination in first division in order to encourage literacy among females.
A meeting of the state-level monitoring committee of human skill development mission presided over by Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi also decided to provide Rs 25,000 to girls hailing from SC and ST or castes having less than 30 per cent literacy rate and clearing plus two in second division.
The meeting announced extending the scholarship of Rs 10,000 to boys and girls passing matriculation exam in second division to those belonging to SC and ST or castes having less than 30 per cent literacy rate, an official statement said.
At present this amount is provided to students clearing matriculation exam only in first division.
It waived off the mandatory 75 per cent attendance as eligibility for availing merit-based scholarship for SC and ST students.
