The opposition Congress today termed the outcome of the Bihar election as a "slap" on Naredra Modi's face and dubbed him as the "Package Prime Minister" for "luring" people during campaigning.
"Modi is a 'Package Prime Minister' (PPM) who tried to misguide people of Bihar with false promises and had attacked the opposition in an unfair manner. This defeat of BJP and NDA is a tight slap on our PM who crossed all limits to acquire power in Bihar," senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela said.
"Time has now come for them (BJP and NDA) to do introspection. During his poll campaign, our PM was behaving as if he wanted to become the chief minister of Bihar. The way he tried to lure people with various packages, he has become a Package PM," the Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly said.
He said the poll result, wherein the NDA bit dust at the hands of the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance, is the "defeat" of the "arrogance" displayed by the BJP-led dispensation and also an "eye-opener" for the BJP as well as Modi.
Vaghela also demanded Modi's resignation on "moral grounds".
"Looking at the poll results, Modi should immediately resign from PM's post on moral grounds. People of Gujarat are also happy with Bihar poll results. I am sure that people of Gujarat will also reject BJP in the upcoming local body polls here," he said.
Meanwhile, reacting sharply on Vaghela's comment, state unit BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja asked Congress to first improve its score before pointing finger at the saffron party.
"There was a time when Congress was ruling Bihar. Now, they are struggling to get seats in double figure. They first need to do introspection before asking us," Jadeja said.
Jadeja said the Bihar results will not have any bearing on the forthcoming local body polls in Gujarat.
"Congress is day-dreaming about their victory in the upcoming local body polls. People here have remained with BJP since so many years and rejected Congress several times in the past. This time too, people will choose BJP for it's development agenda and reject Congress for their negative attitude," he said.
While the municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar would go to polls on November 22, the voting for 31 district panchayats, 230 taluka panchayats and 56 municipalities will take place on November 29.
