Instructions have been given to Superintendents of Police of 12 districts to make a survey on girls taken to Haryana for marriage and report to the headquarters within a month whether they were facing any atrocities, Inspector General of Police, Weaker Section, Arvind Pandey told PTI here today.
The 12 districts were Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, Purnea, Saharsa, Sitamarhi, Munger, West Champaran, East Champaran, Kisanganj, Araria, Madhubani and Katihar, he said.
Pandey said if it came to light that trading of girls had taken place, the police would take action, he said.
The state government's action was prompted by widespread protests over the controversial remarks of Dhankar, BJP National Kishan Morcha head, at a public meeting at Narwana in Haryana's Jind district on Saturday.
