Buoyed by success of round-the-clock hi-tech surveillance system in Beur jail here, the Bihar government is preparing to install Prison ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system in rest 56 jails starting November.
The decision to install Prison ERP system in all the jails was announced by Inspector General of Prisons Anand Kishore at a one-day workshop here today.
ERP system which facilitates central monitoring of the state's jails from prison headquarters (HQ) was introduced as a pilot project in Beur jail in Patna in 2012-13.
Bihar would be the first state where Prison ERP is being introduced, Technical Director of NIC Delhi, Shashikant Sharma said at the workshop.
"Under NIC supervision, E prison programme is functional in more than 700 jails across the country but Bihar would be the first state to implement Prison ERP system which is a matter of pride," he said.
IG Prisons Anand Kishore said that in Prison ERP system, besides E prison, seven other modules have been developed.
They are Gate Management System, Hospital Management System, Stock Management System, Wages Management System, Arms and Ammunitions Management System, Personnel Management System and Treasury and Bill Management System.
Kishore directed officials to ensure that all the work including installation of computer, UPS, Server, LAN etc be made by October 31 so that Prison ERP system could be made operational in all jails.
Implementation of Prison ERP system in all jails of Bihar would require 352 computer operators, 10 programmers and 43 assistant programmers for which on line advertisement has already been placed, the Jail IG said.
He asked officials to install one Kiosk in all 56 jails that would get coverage of Prison ERP.
In the kiosk, any undertrial with the help of Prison Infolet developed by NIC could know next date of hearing and other relevant information on a monitor with the help of a screen touch device.
