Fagerbakke, 57, played Michael 'Dauber' Dybinski, a special teams coach on the show's original nine-season run on ABC.
He will accompany his old co-star, Craig T Nelson, on the follow-up series. Nelson will reprise his role as Hayden Fox and executive produce, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The revival picks up 18 years after the original series ended with Hayden now serving as his son's assistant coach at a Pennsylvania Ivy League school that is in the middle of launching its new football program.
