Birla Corporation Q2 net falls

Cement major Birla Corporation today reported 21 per cent fall in net profit to Rs 32.46 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year.
The company, which is the flagship firm of M P Birla Group, had reported a net profit of Rs 41.58 crore in the same period last year.
Net sales of the company increased to Rs 767.11 crore during the quarter as against Rs 710.71 crore in the previous similar quarter, the company said in a statement.
During the quarter, realisations were better compared to the corresponding quarter the previous year.
The profitability of the company suffered owing to all-round increase in costs, including those of pet coke, fly ash, gypsum, packaging material, diesel as well as railway freight, it said.
