Biting cold wave conditions persist in most parts of HP

Biting cold wave conditions continued unabated in most parts of Himachal Pradesh as minimum temperatures hovered around the freezing point inspite of dry weather.
The high altitude tribal areas reeled under piercing cold wave conditions with minimum temperatures ranging between minus 8 and minus 12 degrees Celsius while Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district recorded a low of minus 4 degrees Celsius.
Bhuntar and Sundernagar in mid hills shivered at 0.8 degree and 1 degrees Celsius while Manali andKalpa recorded minimum temperatures at 1.2 degrees Celsius and 1.8degrees Celsius.
Solan, Palampur and Una recorded minimum temperatures at 2.5 degrees Celsius Palampur 4.9 degrees Celsius and5.2 degrees Celsius while Shimla was warmer with a low of 6.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Dharamsala 8.4 degrees Celsius and Nahan 8.6 degrees Celsius.
However, the maximum day temperatures rose marginally and Una was hottest with a high of 25.2 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar and Solan recorded maximum day temperature at 21.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Bhuntar 20.5 degrees Celsius, Nahan 19.2 degrees Celsius, Shimla 18.8 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 17.6 degrees Celsius, Manali 16.4 degrees Celsius and Kalpa 12.4 degrees Celsius. The sharp fall in minimum temperatures proved boon for Ice skating lovers as after two trial sessions on December 23 and 24, a regular session was held today.
As the weather suddenly turned bad on December 25, skating could not be held and the Carnival, which is an annual attraction of the winter, was not held.
Meanwhile, the local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region over next six daysupto January 2, 2017.
