According to police, the case under Section 66A of the IT Act was registered yesterday against Manav Mahajan at the Civil Lines Police station here.
The complaint in the matter was lodged by one Jasim Mohammed, an alumnus of the university and a social activist.
According to the complainant, Mahajan had made false allegations against the varsity in a facebook post.
Jasim, who is the secretary of the Millat Bedari Committee, has also sought the intervention of the National Commission for Minorities in the matter.
