The Khurda District and Sessions Court today rejected the bail plea of BJD MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, who was arrested by the CBI in a chit fund case.
The legislator has been undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after his arrest.
Judge R K Patnaik declined to grant bail to Biswal even though the latter's lawyer pleaded on health ground.
The CBI counsel strongly opposed the move saying the accused might influence the witnesses if granted bail.
The court had completed hearing on the bail petition yesterday and the judgement was announced today.
This is the second time that Biswal's bail petition was rejected. Earlier, his bail plea was rejected by the special CBI court in Bhubaneswar on September 23.
The Cuttack-Choudwar legislator was admitted at the Capital Hospital on September 22 after he was arrested by the CBI for his alleged links with the multi-crore Seashore Group chit fund scam.
He was later shifted to SCBMCH in Cuttack for better treatment.
Biswal was arrested by the CBI on September 20 and was produced before the special CBI court two days later.
The court had sent Biswal to jail.
