BJP leading in 7 of 14 LS seats

BJP is leading in seven of the total 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, while ruling Congress and principle opposition AIUDF are ahead in three seats each and an Independent in a single constituency.
As per trends available till 3 pm, BJP is ahead in Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Gauhati, Mangaldoi, Nowgong and Tezpur constituencies.
Congress is leading in Koliabor, Silchar and Autonomous District(ST), while AIUDF in Dhubri, Barpeta and Karimganj(SC) besides an independent in Kokrajhar (ST).
Two outgoing union ministers Paban Singh Ghatowar and Ranee Narah are trailing in Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur behind BJP candidates Rameshwar Teli and state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal, respectively.
In prestigious Gauhati seat, BJP's national vice-president and sitting MP Bijoya Chakravarty is leading over state Social Welfare minister Akon Bora's son and first time Congress contestant Manash Borah.
In key Jorhat seat, six-time sitting Congress MP and former union minister Bijoy Krishna Handique is trailing behind BJP tea leader Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.
In Mangaldoi, sitting BJP MP and former party state unit president Ramen Deka is leading over former Congress MP Kirip Chaliha.
In Nowgong, sitting BJP MP and former state unit president Rajen Gohain is leading over Congress candidate Jonjonali Baruah.
In Tezpur, BJP's Ram Prasad Sarmah is leading over Congress' Bhupen Kumar Borah. Rebel Congress candidate Mani Kumar Subba who is contesting as independent is in the third position. Sitting AGP MP Joseph Toppo is in the fourth position.
Congress is leading in the key constituency of Kaliabor where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's engineer-turned-politician son Gaurav is ahead of BJP's Mrinal Kumar Saikia.
