BJP today sought to dismiss speculation over apprehensions voiced by L K Advani on Emergency in the country, saying the remarks were in the context of values in politics going down.
"When values are degraded like this such situations may emerge. It was in this context that Advaniji is indicating in that direction," party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said.
He said Advani is one of the senior-most leaders in Indian politics and "What he has said is right".
"In the last 40 years in politics, ideology, values and principles are gradually missing. If in Indian politics, anyone which has an ideology it is only BJP and to some extent Left parties.
"In all other parties, ideology and values have come to an end and when only the tendency of capturing power dominates then there could be a possibility of situations to which Advaniji has indicated," he said.
Taking an apparent dig at Nitish Kumar, Mulayam Singh and Lalu Prasad, he said they have always opposed the Congress have today joined hands with it only to capture power.
"Those who have fought against emergency from Bihar have today sided with the Congress only to seek power despite having opposed Congress tooth and nail in the past," he said.
He said Atalji is an inspiration for BJP and no BJP leader can even think of comparing with him.
