BJP today said it would continue to fight for official celebration of the 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' on September 17, when the erstwhile Nizam state was merged with Indian Union.
Claiming that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had favoured celebrating the day officially prior to formation of the state last year and slammed the then Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh for not doing so, state BJP president G Kishan Reddy today alleged that Rao has taken a U-turn on the matter.
BJP cadres would tie 'rakhis' to public representatives and officials on 'Raksha Bandhan' day and impress upon them the need to celebrate the Hyderabad Liberation Day officially, he said.
The event is celebrated in Maharashtra and Karnataka as certain districts of the two states were earlier part of the Hyderabad state, Reddy said, adding that BJP would continue to celebrate the occasion as it does every year.
The Hyderabad State under Nizam rule was merged with the Indian Union on September 17 following a 'police action'.
