Bodo agitators today blocked National Highways at various places across Assam demanding a separate Bodoland state, the police said.
Workers of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Progressive (NDFB-P) and People's Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) blocked traffic in at least seven places in six districts.
The districts are Lakhimpur, Darrang, Baksa, Udalguri, Goalpara and Kamrup.
Police said a number of agitators were picked up from different places for blocking the roads.
ABSU president Pramod Boro said agitators blocked the highways at Orang, Gogamukh, Borama, Kajalgaon, Karigaon, Dudhnoi and Sonapur.
Addressing the gathering at Orang, Boro said no discriminatory stand from the Centre and the BJP state leadership regarding the long pending issues of the Bodo people will be tolerated.
He alleged that the BJP-led government is ignoring and undermining the issue and are engaging in political conspiracy to exploit the marginalised groups.
Bodo leaders announced programmes like closure of business establishments, blocking of rail traffic and a maha rally in New Delhi in future.
Last week, the three leading groups involved with Bodoland movement accused the Centre of neglecting and ignoring the issues of people and announced to restart their agitation by blocking National Highways across Assam.
ABSU, NDFB(P) and PJACBM said their agitation was suspended since January 2014 after receiving promise from the BJP leadership for their demands "but after coming to power the party is neglecting us.
