The boy, identified as Amit, was missing since yesterday evening.
He was last seen flying kite in the plot along with other children before his body was found floating in the ditch around 11 AM today, police said.
"The locals alleged that the plot was a property of DDA but we are yet to verify ownership of theland," said a police officer.
A case has been been registered and the body has been sent for autopsy to determine whether the boy died due to drowning or someother reason, he said.
"DDA land are well marked and it could be verified by the police. We will find out whether the said plot belonged to us," said a DDA official.
The boy lived with his family including his father Vijay Ram, mother Shila Devi and two younger sisters, at Taj Market in Old Seelampur.
