A bomb planted allegedly by a nascent militant outfit National Liberation Force of Bengalis was found in front of Kokrajhar post office in Assam's Kokrajhar district, the police said today.
Acting on a tip-off that the bomb was planted at the field near the post office where thousands had gathered to witness Rasleela (cultural show), the police evacuated the area at around 10.30 PM yesterday and found the 2.5 kg improvised explosive device (IED) along with a letter head of the insurgent outfit.
It was safely defused at around 1.30 AM, they said.
Meanwhile, the outfit's 'commander-in-chief' Abhijit Das in an email to some journalists here claimed responsibility for planting the bombs in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Guwahati yesterday.
Das said the intention for planting the bombs was not to explode them but to warn the state government to immediately protect the life and property of the people of Bengali community in the state.
He claimed that the people of the community were not safe as five persons were kidnapped so far this month in Kokrajhar district and they are yet to be rescued.
Meanwhile, police has launched operations to track out the militants of the outfit.
A bomb each was found at Bijni in Chirang district and inside a coach of Alipurduar-Kamakhya Inter-city Express at Kamakhya station in Guwahati yesterday.
