Bombay HC gets three more judges

Three new judges were today sworn in at the Bombay High Court taking the total strength of judges to 52.
Member secretary of Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority P N Deshmukh, secretary general of the Supreme Court A I S Cheema and registrar general of the Bombay High Court S B Shukre were sworn in as additional judges.
The oath was administered by Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit Shah.
The High Court with its principal bench in Mumbai and benches at Aurangabad, Nagpur and Goa has a sanctioned strength of 75 judges, though it had only 49 sitting judges.

Deshmukh had earlier served as a city civil court judge and presided over the special NDPS court in Mumbai.
Cheema had served as registrar general of Bombay High Court before he was appointed as secretary general of Supreme Court. He had also served as principal district and sessions judge in Pune.
Shukre was appointed as registrar general on March 17, 2011, and served as principal district and sessions judge in Nagpur. He was transferred to Mumbai from Kolhapur to set up the Maharashtra Judicial Academy and Indian Mediation Centre and Training Institute at Uttan in Thane district.
