The two-day 'Braj Mahotsav' festival was launched here with much fanfare in the presence of several important dignitaries, including senior BJP leader L K Advani and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan.
The event, intended to promote tourism in Mathura and its art and cultural heritage, began last night at the precinct of Vrindavan Chandrodaya Temple here.
On the occasion, Mathura MP and actress Hema Malini said that she plans to construct more toilets in her constituency and also announced financial help for the families of farmers who committed suicide after incurring crop losses.
"I have already made a few toilets in Rawal village, that I have adopted. But I need more funds to be able to make some more (toilets) all over my constituency. And I am working towards it," she said.
The first day of the event saw a bevy of celebrities, including cine stars Dharmendra, Shraddha Kapoor and singer Udit Narayan gracing the occasion.
