Thane Additional Sessions Judge V V Virkar while pronouncing the sentence yesterday, held Bandhu Waghe(32) guilty of murdering his wife and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 upon him.
According to prosecution, the accused was a severe alcoholic and this led to frequent quarrels between the two-- Bandhu Girija Waghe and wife Sanju -- who were working in a brick-kiln at Godade village.
On March 7, 2012, the accused came home dead drunk and asked his wife to prepare fish for him. However, when the victim refused to oblige, he got annoyed and attacked her fatally with a log of wood.
The court held him guilty under section 304(2) (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC and sentenced him to five years' RI.
