Goa police would be applying the security 'model' used by Delhi police during the BRICS summit in the coastal state this October.
The fourth annual BRICS summit -- of the group of nations comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- was held in the national capital in 2012. The eighth summit of the group would be held here on October 15 and 16.
"We are following the manual of Delhi police and their model for the security preparations," superintendent of police (security) Bosco George told PTI here.
The state cops had asked their Delhi counterparts for assistance by way of both manpower and expertise, he said.
Goa police did not have enough manpower and equipment for an event of such a magnitude, and therefore they had requested the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for support, he said.
"We will borrow bullet-proof vehicles and jackets, snipers, and door-frame and hand-held metal detectors. Nine companies of para-military forces will also be a part of the entire security apparatus," the SP said.
Goa Government has requested the Defence Ministry to allow private aircraft of the visiting heads of BRICS nations to be parked at INS Hansa, the naval base near Dabolim airport in the state.
"Since private aircraft would be parked at INS Hansa and VVIPs would be brought to the venue from the naval base, it would not cause inconvenience to the regular fliers using the Dabolim airport," George said.
Arrival of the VVIPs was scheduled in such a way that it would not cause inconvenience to the public, he said.
"But even if there is a slight problem on the roads, people should cooperate as this event will give Goa an exposure in the international arena," he added.
